Congress began this year with a fight to help communities ravaged by Superstorm Sandy. It eventually agreed on $50 billion in emergency relief three months after the storm struck coastal areas.

Yesterday brought another setback for two New Jersey beach towns famously affected by Sandy - Seaside Park and Seaside Heights, where a rollercoaster fell into the ocean. A huge fire yesterday destroyed their newly rebuilt boardwalk along with dozens of businesses. Governor Chris Christie was characteristically blunt.
GOVERNOR CHRIS CHRISTIE: I said to my staff, I feel like I want to throw up. And that's me. After all the effort and time and resources that we've put in to help the folks at Seaside Park and Seaside Heights rebuild, it's just unthinkable.
