Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota Science Assessments

Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska have placed in the top third of the country in a national science test.  Siouxland Public Media’s Mary Hartnett has more.

The 2015 National Assessment of Educational Progress science assessment is designed to measure students' knowledge and abilities in physical science, life science, and Earth and space sciences.  Test results for fourth, eighth and 12th graders were released Thursday.  Proficiency rates in Iowa were 42 percent, in South Dakota 40 percent and in Nebraska 47 percent.  Those results place the states in the top third of the country.  All three states exceeded national average of 37 percent.

The National Center for Educational Statistics says students across the board are improving in science. And minority students and girls are making gains to narrow achievement gaps. For Siouxland Public Media, I’m Mary Hartnett.
