Three-Minute Fiction

GUY RAZ, HOST:

A quick reminder that Round 8 of Three-Minute Fiction is now open.

(SOUNDBITE OF CLOCK TICKING)

RAZ: Yesterday on the program, we kicked off a new round of our writing contest with our new judge, the novelist Luis Alberto Urrea. And as always, we're looking for original fiction, can't be longer than 600 words maximum. And this time around, Luis wants every story to begin this way.

LUIS ALBERTO URREA: She closed the book, placed it on the table and finally decided to walk through the door.

RAZ: Remember, 600 words or less, and that includes that first sentence Luis just read, which is, once again...

URREA: She closed the book, put it on the table and finally decided to walk through the door.

RAZ: And to submit your story, go to our website, npr.org/threeminutefiction. That's Three-Minute Fiction all spelled out, no spaces. The deadline is 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, March 25th. In the meantime, check us out on our Three-Minute Fiction Facebook page, and over the coming weeks, listen out for excerpts from standout stories we'll be reading here on the air.
