Today, to help keep your spirits merry and bright this season, I am recommending a trio of my personal holiday favorites.
The Christmas Box by Richard Paul Evans is one of those holiday stories that holds a special place in my heart. It reminds me of my mom who always had this book on display during the Christmas season when I was a kid. It took me a few years to actually take the book off the shelf and read it, but I’m sure glad I did. Though it might seem like the storyline is straight out of a Hallmark movie, the author’s motive for writing the story and the moving way with which he writes this heartwarming, inspiring tale, are what keep it as one of my favorites.
Fans of fast-paced, humorous mysteries will enjoy my next holiday favorite, Visions of Sugar Plums by Janet Evanovich. Known as a Between-the-Numbers novel, this holiday treat features Evanovich’s beloved bounty hunter Stephanie Plum. Its four days before Christmas and things aren’t looking great. Stephanie has no tree, she hasn’t bought any presents, the shopping malls are packed, and there’s a strange man in her kitchen. This wacky mystery is one funny, feel-good, sassy holiday story.
Rounding out my trio of favorite holiday tales, is Skipping Christmas by John Grisham. Luther and Nora Krank are fed up with Christmas and have decided to skip Christmas this year. Instead they will be setting sail on Christmas Day for a Caribbean Cruise. But at the last minute, an unexpected phone call leads to a major change in plans. Grisham’s witty writing and moving tone make this a chaotic holiday story you won’t soon forget.
Check out these engaging holiday stories and many more like them at the Sioux City Public Library. Happy Holidays!
