Check It Out: Naruto Manga Series by Masashi Kishimoto

This is Preston from KWIT and you’re listening to Check It Out.

When I say the word ninja, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Many would think of someone dressed in all black from head to toe. Others would think of a Bruce Lee Kung-Fu movie they saw when they were a teen. Neither answer is wrong. But for this kind of ninja, I am thinking of a short blonde-haired kid who wears an orange jump suit. That’s right, it’s Naruto Uzamaki.

For this week’s Check It Out I am going to be recommending the Naruto manga series written and illustrated by Masashi (Mah-tah-shi) Kishimoto. The main character which you probably know by now hence the title of the manga is about an obnoxiously loud pre-teen who was born with the deadly Nine-tailed Fox sealed away inside of him causing children and adults to steer clear of him leaving him lonely most of his childhood. Raised with no parents but only aid from the Third Hokage and teachers, Naruto learns how to be brave on his own and comes up with his lifelong goal, to become Hokage.

Enrolling in the village’s Ninja Academy, this is where he meets his future comrades and teammates. Each ninja is placed into three squad teams preparing them for the upcoming Chunin Exams. Naruto’s team consists of himself, cool guy Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto’s secret crush Sakura Haruno and the squad’s leader Kakashi Hatake.

These four will go through a lot. Challenging each one of them and the people around them while also making both friends and foes along the way.

As I read each chapter in this manga it caused me to keep on wanting to read more and more because I wanted to know what would happen to the characters as the plot thickens and to come up with questions like “Would Naruto ever harness the power of the Nine-tailed Fox?”
