Morningside College Piano Series

Pianist Boris Slutsky is the next guest on Opus. Slutsky grew up in Russia and burst onto the scene winning every major prize at the William Kapell International Piano Competition in 1981. He is now Chair of Piano at The Peabody Conservatory and recently began teaching at Northwestern University. Gretchen Gondek had a chance to talk to Slutsky after a recent performance at the Morningside College Piano Recital Series.

Shichao Zhang

Cellist Stephanie March and pianist Shichao Zhang met at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. Quickly they discovered a common musical understanding and began performing together in chamber groups. It wasn't until now, ten years later, that they will finally perform a full recital as a duo. The program includes works by Piazzolla and Chopin, which we hear snippets of in this feature. Audience members will also hear a Beethoven sonata and a work by Foss that evokes the American frontier.

Morningside College's Piano Recital Series continues this Saturday. Dr. James March, the series programmer, often comes in to tell us about the upcoming recitals, and we are always glad to have him. This time Dr. March is bringing in pianist Andrew Russo, bringing him in, in fact, for a second time.
